The skin is the largest organ in the body and many diseases and general health issues are first detected on the skin. The current  focus in aesthetics is on regenerative treatments, promoting optimum skin health and function, on a cellular level.

Ireland is currently experiencing a shortage in general practitioners and Dermatologists. Skin Cancer is the most common form of cancer in Ireland. Early detection is crucial to the individuals long term outcome.

As NMBI registered and INMO recognised Dermatology Aesthetic Nurses, they take a full medical history and lengthy consultations with patients prior to any treatment. They delve into lifestyle and emotional concerns of the individual. Body dysmorphic disorder BDD may be a factor with individuals focusing on imperfections which may have a more psychological impact. They advise on skin health and prevention of skin cancer.

Some individuals may have difficulty in accessing dermatologists as the number of dermatologists in Ireland are not sufficient to see the number of patients needing their services.

Dermatology Aesthetic Nurses can triage individuals and prioritise urgent referrals to either their GP’s or the local dermatologist. This practice enables the individual to seek the correct medical assistance as quickly as possible and can alleviate patient stress.

Dermatology Aesthetic Nurses in private clinics contribute hugely to the general heath care of the population. These specialist nurses have built excellent relations with GP’s and Hospital consultants and doctors over their career. The care of the individual / patient is foremost and working with professional health care teams in the community enables the private health care nurse to access these resources and their professional advice and direction.

Health Care is a team effort.

Dermatology Aesthetic Nurses of Ireland (DANAI) and members of the NMBI need to be recognised by the HSE and afforded equal  opportunities for further education and accreditation equal to all Nurses in Ireland.
